Description
I have until Jan 9 to find this boy a home or an experience foster but preferably a permanent home. Here’s TEIGEN’s story: He was found in an area of no homes in October, when Animal Control caught and took him to shelter. He became more progressively scared and more fearful inside the kennel. It’s a death camp, no wonder he was labeled aggressive and sentenced to death. I’m sure your own sweet puppers would react the same way if in this situation, right? Heelers do not do well in shelters, most dogs do not. A wonderful rescue out of Utah agreed to pull him because a sponsor stepped up to take responsibility for him. We are still fundraising to pay the cost of saving this miserable dog, but it was worth it. Love never fails. So, the sponsor arranged to pick him up from the shelter and take him directly to a trainer in San Diego county who has worked with aggressive dogs. Upon picking him up at shelter, we discovered he had a horrible ear infection, how painful! The shelter had refused to treat him, their vet refused to neuter or care for him. Absolutely astounding! When arriving at the training facility, the trainer had no trouble transferring him from the transport crate to his new crate and we arranged to take him to a vet right away. Teigen did have a terrible, painful ear infection, which may explain his attitude in part. After a few days he returned for neutering, and since then has turned into a happy, healthy boy. He is on a natural whole raw food diet, continued with ear meds and is almost done with two full months of top-notch training. Please watch his YouTube video to see what a wonderful dog he has turned into. He is full of joy and love, so happy he has been given a chance at life! Unfortunately, he has partial hearing loss from the ear infection so will need a special home that understands the breed, these amazing Aussie Cattle Dog Heelers, and has the patience to learn a few hand signals so everyone is on the same page. Teigen knows commands and uses an e-collar (using vibration only, never shock or pain). It really is not difficult to have a dog with hearing challenges; many trainers also use hand signals with hearing or non-hearing dogs. He does well with other dogs - cats unknown. Teigen will do best in a home with a fenced yard due to his hearing loss for his own safety, wide open spaces can be challenging, and he is crate trained. Teigen would be inside 80% of the time and is potty trained, asks to go outside. The trainer is located near Camp Pendleton, CA (near San Diego) and will handle all meet and greets. An adoption application will be necessary. Please share this pup and network for a good home or foster volunteer. People interested in Teigen can message me directly for more information.
