Description

Smart-guided Cycle Tour ~ Cleveland, Ohio - Big Creek / Lake to Lake Bikeways CycleNuts Selfie Cycle ToursThe Big Creek Parkway Trail has been around forever, it seems. Before rail-to-trails, before towpath trails, before the rest of the impressive Emerald Necklace trail system happened, this intercommunity bikeway came to be in the 1970s. Following the lay of the land as it wiggles between trees and across brooks through quiet suburban neighborhoods this trail is moderately level with one of my favorite coasting hills at its south end. No, the route does not return uphill on that coaster. Next on the agenda is the newer Lake to Lake Trail which connects... two lakes. But not just regular lakes. These lakes are special - and really beautiful. "Lake Abram is the largest remaining glacial wetland in Cuyahoga County and offers a quarter mile boardwalk of scenic views of its expansive wetland". Lake Isaac is "a glacial pothole created thousands of years ago" and is an important - and really scenic - habitat for wildlife. Round and about this Selfie Cycle Tour passes by Walter F Ehrnfelt Covered Bridge (an infamous fake covered bridge), Wallace Lake Beach (a real swimming beach), and through Berea, Ohio using the Rocky River segment of the Emerald Necklace Bikeway - another incredibly beautiful trail. This is where the optional tasty turnaround spot is located and where the tour route reconnects with bikeways for the return to the starting spot. Comprised mostly of bikeways, the 21 mile tour route is moderately level across gently rolling terrain, except for a mild climb out of the shallow river valley. The route is 92% bikeway, and comes with CycleNuts' 50% downhill guarantee. If your bike has gears, you will probably use them to the some extent climbing out of the valley and to a lesser degree in a couple of spots along the route. All bikes are appropriate for this smart-guided tour - even a single speed bike as long as you do not mind walking your bike up the spots mentioned. Bring yours or rent one in the Cleveland area (see confirmation information for listings). Sweating is optional. The route is shaded about 75% of the way. You set your own pace, starting time and touring agenda with CycleNuts' expert smart-guided cycle tour pattern. Points of interest: Big Creek Parkway Trail, Lake to Lake Trail, Lake Abram, Rocky River Reservation, city of Berea, Walter F Ehrnfelt Covered Bridge, Wallace Lake Beach, and Cornerstone Brewing Company, an optional midway tasty stop - CycleNuts tested and approved.
