Hosted by the Akron AIDS Collaborative, in partnership with the Akron NAACP, First Grace United Church of Christ, The Freedom Bloc, Greater Akron-Canton Association of Black Social Workers, Beyond Expectations Barber College, 100 Black Men of Akron, Inc., Freedom ROC, the Akron African-American Culture Association, and DJ BREZZY, this event is a free, non-violent protest, and we invite everyone invested in non-violent protest and anti-racist work to join us. Why Spoken Word? Simply put, words matter. "SAY HIS NAME" is only 3 words. "BLACK LIVES MATTER" — only 3 words. "WE ARE DONE DYING" — 4 words. We say, ENOUGH! Community, use your words. We're offering a $500 prize for first place, $250 for second place, and $100 for third place. You must register to be eligible to win cash prizes. Rules for Spoken Word: — No foul language — Original artwork ONLY — 3 minute max speaking time — Must complete a registration form before taking the stage
