From remay cloth to hugelkultur, lasagna soil to forest garden guilds, there are avenues and changes we can make to help alleviate drought. Beginning with a brief
introduction to permaculture and moving through the drought issue with the eyes of a permaculturist.
Becky Elder lives in Manitou Springs. She is a lifelong Colorado organic
gardener and nature interpreter. Becky was a Master Gardener with El Paso
County Extension for 15 years, presenting educational programs and working
on community projects. Certified in permaculture design in 2002, Becky works
to build lasting community resilience through Pikes Peak Permaculture, a local
non-profit. She is the current Executive Director. Her organic gardening business,
Blue Planet Becky Elder the gardener, is a respected, earth-conscious gardening
business that creates nature wise, water wise gardens, operating since 1995.
Becky’s award-winning book, Raven in the Garden, a Front Range Gardener’s Journal,
is available through the Pikes Peak Library District. Becky continues to write seasonal
articles for local media and her blog fans. She works for her community being an active
member of the Manitou Springs’ Climate Action Working Group, among other efforts.
She was a former Manitou City Councilor for five years 2015 – 2020. Becky and her husband,
Michael Galvin, enjoy their certified wildlife habitat gardens at their foothills home.
