You will meet women who were confined at the NY State Training School for Girls in their teens and explore archival material concerning young women (including a young Ella Fitzgerald) who were sent to this institution that operated from 1904-1975 in Hudson, NY. After this 5-day workshop you will take part in a story share and community conversation.
Are you a young woman* interested in expressing yourself through the written and spoken word? We are looking for curious girls* from Newburgh between the ages of 14 and 19 willing to engage in intergenerational exchange and self-discovery. In this 1-week workshop you will participate in story-sharing, written expression, and art-making.
All you need is courage and comfortable clothes. No prior experience necessary. The workshop is FREE! Lunch will be provided. A small stipend provided. Space is limited.
