Description

Marine Mammal Rescue and Rehabilitation Learn more about the Pacific Marine Mammal Center’s rescue and rehabilitation efforts, and local marine mammal species during this interactive presentation with Amanda Walters. Amanda has had a passion for marine mammals since she was very young and began volunteering at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in 2012. With an undergraduate degree in Animal Science from the University of Missouri, Columbia, her focus was primarily on equine and cattle, but she always had the goal of working with marine mammals. Amanda led summer camp programs and joined the animal care volunteer team at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center after graduation, in addition to working in the Public Programs department at the Dana Point Ocean Institute. After moving to Hawaii to work as a marine mammal trainer, Amanda returned to California in 2018 to work full-time for PMMC as the Community Education Programs Manager, overseeing approximately ten different programs. In addition to educating all ages about the marine mammals, she develops curriculum and assists with behavioral research. Amanda is a scuba certified and is a professionally trained Naturalist through the America Cetacean Society. Local musical favorites, Hans and Janine, will perform during the hosted reception.
