NORTHPORT, AL — The American Red Cross is set to host a blood drive on Wednesday at the Northport Civic Center as a way to honor the memory of the late Jaden Elijah Smith. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alerts The blood drive will last from noon to 7 p.m., with the bus set up in the Northport City Hall and Civic Center parking lot. The event will also serve as a celebration of life for Jaden — a Northside Middle School student who died in 2019 at the age of 11 after a courageous battle with cancer that saw him earn the nickname "Superman." Diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, Jaden received numerous blood transfusions throughout his extended battle, which will be the central cause for Wednesday's blood drive.
