KANE COUNTY, IL — Much of Kane County saw its first significant snowstorm of the season Tuesday, with up to 5 inches accumulating in some areas.
That means many Kane County residents broke out their shovels, sleds and snowshoes for the first time this winter, while others hooked up their plows and shook the rust off their snowblowers.

Geneva: 4.7 inchesBoulder Hill (Montgomery area): 3.8 inches Batavia: 3.6 inches North Aurora: 3.5 inchesAurora: 3 inchesMost of the mix of freezing rain and drizzle was expected to leave the area by noon Wednesday, though police are urging drivers to continue to take extra caution and give themselves extra time to travel.
Thursday is expected to be partly cloudy with a high near 29 degrees, though winter weather could return just after the start of the New Year, with a slight chance of snow in the area after midnight Friday.
