Help, need vet for rat with tumor

Help, :(.... my 2 year old adopted pet rat (very good boy) has a tumor on his side, about half the size of his head, he started biting it. Calling vets has left me in tears, "we arn't accepting new clients" "we don't do exotics" 'it will be $90 for an evaluation and if surgery is an option it will be $1k+. This is so depressing. I had a pet rats tumor removed 20 years ago, it was $50, now most don't even want to help. I know it's a 15 min procedure, any helpful advice? recommendation of a semi retired vet that can snip this reasonably? He's such a good boy, and has more to live thank you
