Job Description Salary Range: $41,140 - $63,766 This position is located at the Little Creek Horse Farm & Park which is a Dekalb County park. This is a Dekalb County position with full benefits. Essential Functions: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Leads, evaluates, and assigns staff; opens and closes facility; supervises the cleanliness of the building; provides exceptional service to the community. 40 hour a week - Work Schedule can vary with a 7-day-a-week operation that functions from 6am to 9:30pm on a daily basis. Ability to lift 50lb feed bags and heavy bales of hay. Lead 1000+ horses (will train on this if not familiar) Ability to work all day on your feet in the hot and the cold weather! The leader position assists with backup when staff are out on vacation or unavailable. This position is will assist with improving and maintaining the quality of the facility and the land. Overseeing and ensuring facility and horse care tasks are being completed properly. Facility skills needed: Handyman skills such as; Construction (building and repairing fences, stalls, facility repairs as needed) Plumbing - plumbing skills to fix toilets, irrigation lines, water lines throughout the barn, cold weather issues (froz pipes), irrigation to indoor and outdoor arenas Ability to drive a tractor to drag ring Landscaping - basic land maintenance to tree limbs that have fallen in the pasture (chainsaw skills) Basic Mechanical abilities to maintain equipment (tractors, chain saws, weedeaters, etc.) Painting, Pressure Washing, etdc. Horse Care Tasks - Great if you know how to work with horses. If you do not but are interested - willing to train on this part of the job. Horse care is always #1 and must be tended to if staff are out or unavailabe. Horses must be fed and watered and get some play time outside! Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required; and two years of experience in recreation programming; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. In addition to the Essential Functions of this position, the following functions will be required: Works closely with the Barn Supervisor and in their absences, monitors and directs recreation workers and temporary assistants to ensure barn tasks are completed correctly and timely and facility maintenance does not fall behind. Feeds and water horses; feeds and water horses per established schedules or to specific health recovery or maintenance programs, maintains feeding and water records; and advises supervisor when supplies are needed. Cleans stalls; cleans and changes bedding per established schedules or as needed; use power washing equipment to handle difficult cleanups, and cleans or launders equipment. Maintains fences; monitors the integrity of fences daily, and uses hand tools to repair damaged fences. Using the assigned vehicle and drag equipment drags both indoor and outdoor riding areas per the established schedule by the Barn Supervisor. Provides assistance to boarding clients; and assists clients with moving horses for transport or with other handling as directed by the Barn Supervisor. Walks horses to and from pastures or paddock areas; moves horses out of any and into stalls. Reports any safety issues or maintenance and repair needs to the Barn Supervisor. Monitors horse health; provides general, day-to-day observation of health; reports emerging concerns or issues to Barn Supervisor; and coordinates with the supervisor or Veterinary staff to provide care as needed.
