Description
I'm a 100% disabled veteran, unfortunately with PTSD, and I'm looking for a companion that can help with my symptoms or be trained to. It's an incredibly long wait to get on any list to obtain a service dog thru an organization (on average 2 years from all I've spoken to). So I'm hoping that somewhere in Oklahoma I can find someone that has a kind heart and knows of someone or somewhere that I can apply that doesn't have a 2 year wait.
I'm home 24/7, have the ability to care for a dog (we have 1 service animal, but the dog belongs to my fiancé), and our environment is suited to all animals. My 11 year old daughter wants to be a vet tech one day and so our house is well organized zoo. I'm on a fixed income, so unfortunately I can't float dropping $500-$2500 on a service animal. Yes, I have heard it all, "well if you can't afford it you don't need it" and "our price is this high to ensure they go to a good home". I get it, no one wants their dog living in slums or outdoor conditions, but not everyone who is on fixed income mistreats animals.
We have a 3 bedroom home, big fenced back yard for running (BUT MY ANIMALS LIVE INDOORS!). I will not let an animal sleep outside; because in this heat that's just cruel and it invites parasites/bugs to your pet.
Anyways, I doubt this will get far, but if someone knows someone who is willing to help a veteran overcome daily living, any help is appreciated. I can't travel across the states and stay a year to 2 years for training processes, which I know makes it nearly impossible to obtain a service dog. But, I'm trying to remain hopeful nonetheless. 20 years, 3 years in combat (Iraq and Afghanistan x2) serving in the Army, and my only desire in life is to have a companion to help me navigate my symptoms. Thanks for your time.
