WESTLAKE, OH — As 2020 finally draws to a close in what has been an unprecedented year, local runners and walkers are invited to look ahead to better days — and put their goals down in writing — as part of the annual Resolution Run 5K, which will take place on Sunday. Market Square at Crocker Park is partnering with Hemes Cleveland for the event, which begins at 9 a.m. in the first public race of the New Year. Runners and walkers are invited to participate in the event, which organizers say is focused on positive resolutions, accountability and to celebrate the community coming together. The Resolution Run will begin at Market Square where participants will have the chance to write their goals for 2021 on a Resolution Wall before beginning the 5-kilometer race. The event is designed for fun and encouragement, organizers said, as well as providing participants with a fresh start to the New Year. Runners will be released in small waves to allow for proper social distancing. Participants will receive a finisher's medal, T-Shirt and a results time as well as access to photographs, which will be able to be downloaded for free. Organizers are also offering a virtual version of the Resolution Run to runners and walkers who do not yet feel comfortable participating in live events, organizers said. "We are welcoming 2021 with open arms," Stacie Schmidt, vice president of marketing and communications for Stark Communications, said in a news release. "…(The event) is a great way to set you 2021 goals, get outside for some fresh air and start the year on the right foot." In-person participants may pick up their race packets either prior to the race on Saturday or from 8-9 a.m. on Sunday. Registration is now open and is $30 until Jan. 2 or $35 on Jan. 3. Burndtwood Tavern and Leo's Italian Social are offering brunch after the event. Doors to the restaurants open at 10 a.m. and brunch specials are available to race participants. To register for the event, participants may visit www.hermescleveland.com.
