Maverick (cattle dog/hound) is still looking for his forever home. He's our foster dog and we took him in after his homeless owner went into hospice. He's about a year old, medium sized 40-45lbs and full grown. Still can be very puppy like at times especially when he gets excited. He listens well though. He has been undergoing all sorts of training and socializing since being with us. He isn't a digger, he isn't a chewer, he isn't much of a barker and he has a great off switch inside! He knows sit, come, off, no, go lay down, go to your bed, get your toy and leave it. He has been with other dogs, big and small, kids, cats and bunnies. He is leash trained, kennel trained and potty trained. He is cautious of strangers and takes a few mins to warm up. Not a dog who will be pulling you down the street to say hi to everyone, unless it's a dog 😂 Other than his initial shyness with strangers (totally understandable given his past), his other downfalls are he's not wonderful yet with recall, and he's reactive in cars! He's wonderful with children, fireworks didn't faze him, he is loving, sweet, playful and my 3 year old can tell him what to do and he respects confident assertive kind people of all sizes. His ideal home: Family dog Fenced in yard Another dog to play with, preferably confident and a little older than him and larger. Kids 3/4 and older who can handle his energetic play (please no special needs kiddos), be confident with him and tell him no when need be (he's learning not to jump up or play with feet!) One cat who is dog savvy and kind is ok. More cats might overwhelm him. A family who are active and wants a good hiking/walking or running buddy. I have videos of him, tons of pics, his journey is on our rescue page etc.. He will be fixed and have ALL needed vet work done on the 13th. Available to a forever home after that. Located on the Oregon coast in Newport. His DNA results will be in soon and we will know what kind of hound his daddy was! New owners will also get all of that paperwork. Small adoption fee $200. Comes with all his stuff and some transition food plus fully vetted. Adoption contract required plus meet and greet. We want to make sure he's the right fit for you and you are for him!
