BANQUET AND FACILITIES MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN (Uptown) OVERVIEW The Banquet and Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the care and maintenance of Touro Synagogue's grounds and facilities as well as ensuring the proper and timely set-up and execution of banquet events, meetings and programs. This includes banquet work, custodial services, security, and tenant experience management. This position reports to the Executive Director. RESPONSIBILITIES Overall responsibility for events and the upkeep of the entire facility, including: -Setup of tables, chairs and audio visual equipment before and after functions -Maintains all equipment and facilities in an organized, clean, safe environment -Interfaces with membership, professional staff, and volunteer workers in a friendly, service-oriented manner -Maintains constant communication with Executive Director -Coordinates with other staff to arrange for events and program needs -Ensures proper setting of buffet tables and other food service tables -Communicates any areas of need, problems, and concerns to Executive Director -Keeps inventory of all synagogue equipment/supplies and stored in appropriate areas -Follows all designated opening and closing procedures to ensure areas are secure -Performs minor painting, carpentry and masonry work -Maintains the cleanliness of social halls, worship spaces, classrooms, hallways, restrooms, corridors, stairways, and other work areas -Follows all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage -Regularly inspects synagogue premises for areas of concern -Coordinates maintenance of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. If necessary, coordinate with outside vendors to facilitate repairs -Other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED -Forward-thinking trouble shooter who can think outside the box -Ability to work in a very busy, multi-tasking team environment -Strong communication and interpersonal skills -Must be customer service oriented -Basic painting skills -Ability to use common tools -Ability to work with minimal supervision -Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Outlook -Respect for Jewish Practices, including the Shabbat and other holiday observances -2+ years work experience in at least one of the following: Custodial Services Facilities management Facilities support for events, including planning and execution Maintenance/repairs Ability to stand by Touro's Core Workplace Values (see below) PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the Banquet and Facilities Maintenance Technician is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is also required to use hands to handle and operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with arms and hands. The Banquet and Facilities Maintenance Technician is also required to sometimes climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
