Volunteer Activity: Spend your morning beautifying pollinator & rain gardens at Easter Lake Park through mulching, weeding, and trash removal projects. This July, Easter Lake Park Stewards will be guiding volunteers on a variety of projects focused on mulching, weeding, watering, and litter removal in 9 rain garden and pollinator gardens at the park. Participants are invited to come and go per their desired hours. *These events will be led by Polk County Conservation Volunteer Park Stewards Karen Stiles & Mike Schaffer. Learn about Polk County Conservation's Park Stewardship Program here. What to Wear: Work gloves, boots or shoes that can get dirty or wet from gardening activities. Pants, and closed-toe shoes are recommended. Please bring a refillable water bottle. About the Easter Lake Park Stewards A beautiful 165-acre lake is the centerpiece of the 468+ acre Easter Lake Park in southeastern Des Moines offering fishing, swimming, trails, playgrounds, picnicking opportunities, and more. A great sense of community exists around Easter Lake and the many recent park improvements inspiring many of the local neighbors to give back to their local park & watershed. Partnering with Polk County Conservation, volunteer Park Stewards come together each week to care for rain gardens and pollinator gardens, remove invasive species and litter, improve trials, participate in wildlife and water quality monitoring programs, and more. ACTIVITY: Gardening (weeding, planting, mulching) PHYSICAL DIFFICULTY: Easy, Moderate REGISTRATION: Required DEADLINE: Register by noon the day before COST: Free AGES: 15 & older. Volunteers 14 and younger should be accompanied by a parent/guardian. No experience necessary.
