A North Carolina non-profit organization, Thumbs Up Reading is committed to providing books for children and teens that represent a wide range of identities. Thumbs Up Reading is also committed to closing the literacy gap of minority students and underserved youth. The year’s event theme is “Experiencing the Adventure of Reading". Event will be held, Date: July 23, 2022 Location: Southview Recreation Center Time: 12:00 p.m. to until 4:00 p.m. This year's Thumbs Up Celebration will include entertainment, food, games, spoken word, African drumming, a panel discussion on the importance of literacy and gift card/prize giveaways. On display will be our first LIVE African American Wax Museum of great African Americans, (past and present) featuring youth participants from the community as designated characters. Award-winning book authors will be in attendance to personally autograph books along with a few local celebrities, and prominent community leaders.
