The Summer Skate Jam has announced that the event will return to the Newark Skatepark on July 30th. The day will rally around a skateboard contest for people of all ages and skill levels. As it grows into the second year, SSJ has become a positive occasion for the whole community. You can expect food trucks, live music, art, local vendors, raffles sponsored by small businesses and substantial prizes for the contestants. “Our city is lacking in healthy entertainment for the youth,” says Jesse Hunt, co-founder of SSJ. “Skateboarding had such an impact on my life and I want to use it as a way to give back to my community.” Registration is required for anyone interested in participating in the skate contest but the event is free for all to attend. In-person registration will kick off at 4pm at Everett Park near downtown Newark with music starting at 4:30pm. [About SSJ] Summer Skate Jam unofficially began in 2020 at the height of the pandemic when a group of friends wanted to keep a vibrant skateboarding scene in Newark, OH. In 2021, as the community began to reopen, it became an official contest and event drawing professional skateboarders to the area. The event is held at Newark Skatepark within Everett Park which also entails a playground, dog park, community garden picnic pavilion, public restrooms, practice baseball fields and disc golf.
