Description
Hudson’s 10th annual St. Croix RiverFest celebration is set for July 19 - 23. RiverFest “A Party with a Purpose” is designed to inspire people of all ages to actively celebrate the St. Croix River while recognizing the need to preserve and protect the river’s health and beauty. A wide variety of activities and events will be offered during this five-day celebration including the annual River Clean-up is on Tuesday morning, July 19th, followed with a picnic lunch for the clean-up participants, and a presentation with Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center animal ambassadors. While the goal of RiverFest is to encourage people to enjoy the river, the river clean-up is the “purpose” for the celebration. Community volunteers meet at the Lakefront Park Bandshell at 10 am and then get out to help clean up the St. Croix River. The trash collected during the clean-up will be used by students from The Phipps’ River Deluxe Exploration art and science class to create a new “skin” for Scrappy the Splashing Bass. Scrappy, the RiverFest mascot, will make appearances throughout the summer at many lower St. Croix River celebrations that have environmental themes. The Toonies ENVIRO-FUN puppet show is a popular event on Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm at the Hudson Bandshell. This entertaining show for families with younger children focuses on environmental awareness. Partner organizations will have booths with information and demonstrations before the concert starting at 6 pm The Concert begins at 7 pm and will include musical selections that celebrate our Wild and Scenic St. Croix River. On Friday, July 22nd there is an Evening Prairie Hike with naturalists at the Carpenter Nature Center’s Wisconsin Campus Trail. RiverFest wraps up on Saturday, July 23rd with a Native American Cultural Celebration. Gather by the river for a dancing and singing presentation by the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin TRAILS Dance Troupe and the Native Pride Dancers.
