We cordially invite you to celebrate the 52nd annual Odun Oshun celebration of Iyalode Osunbunmi Olafemi. You may affectionately know her as "Yeye" because she is everyone's mother. At 76 years of life and 52 years of devotion to Orisha Oshun, Yeye is godmother to many in the African American community. She may quite possibly be your godparent or your godparent's godparent. In 1970, she along with her then husband Oba Oseijemen Adefunmi I were the first 2 pioneers to buy a piece of land and lay the groundwork for the Yoruba village in South Carolina known for the last 50 years as Oyotunji Village, USA. Oyotunji has acted as a refuge for African Americans searching for their African roots. Folks from all over the USA have found Orisha through priests who once called Oyotunji home. For the last 52 years Yeye Osunbunmi has made it her life to devote herself to doing the work of Oshun by keeping the traditions of our ancestors alive. We owe it to Iyalosa Osunbunmi Olafemi for her part in propagating Yoruba culture in our community! Oriki Oshun: Oshun, mother with a crown made of peacock feathers. Mother who is ever ready to hear. My mother who beautifies herself with indigo. Mother with a coral comb who beautifies my destiny. My mother who buries her wealth in the sand! Oh mother, you who pamper the child with ide. We salute you. Iyalosa invites you to enjoy food, fun, drumming and dancing in the name of our mother Yeye Osun! Ore Yeye oooo! Osun's shrine will be set up in her royal splendor. Bring her gifts of orange and yellow fruits, sweet wines, honey, sugar, sweets, bells, beads, cloth, money etc. This promises to be a beautiful event and no Osun celebration is complete without the expression of an open air market.
