At Borealis Basecamp, we are dedicated to providing the best customer service in Alaska to our guests. We are an experiential destination just outside of Fairbanks, where guests from all over the world gather to watch the northern lights and experience Alaska’s beauty. We seek dedicated, friendly, energetic people who enjoy interacting with guests from all over the world to join our team. Reindeer Handler Duties: Build and maintain relationships with our reindeer. Train reindeer following exercises outlined in reindeer manual. Guide 30 minute long reindeer meet and greet tours with up to 10 guests, on a daily basis. Track animal movements and log changes in behavior in reindeer. Clean and maintain livestock pens. Regularly count inventory on farm supplies including but not limited to reindeer feed, reindeer treats, seeds, and other materials. Operate under the Basecamp Brand to creatively to grow program. Maintain a clean, safe work site. Provide clear communication with Basecamp management. Work activities counter, count inventory, count down cash drawer, and maintain accurate records of sales and inventory for gift area. Requirements: The ability to hold a conversation with a stranger for several minutes is a crucial part of this position, experience with livestock (specifically reindeer) is preferred. Must be highly personable and willing to provide great customer service. High school diploma or GED preferred, as well as proficiency with a foreign language. CPR and Wilderness First Aid certified. Knowledge of Alaskan nature and history and passion for the outdoors preferred. Ability to lift, rotate, and place up to 50 pounds. Strong oral and written communication skills and creative thinking skills are required. Willingness to work in the outdoors in Arctic climate crucial. Ability to stand on feet for up to 8 hours a day. For all positions at Borealis Basecamp, each and every team member must be willing to help team members out of their regular department and must be able to hold a conversation with a stranger for several minutes. Any and all duties as assigned. Pay Rate: $16/ hour Housing available Year round position Job Type: Full-time Staff housing and dining is available on property for a total of $200/month! We are also offering gas stipends to those who are driving in from Fairbanks.
