Tuscaloosa Extends Restrictions On City Buildings, Events

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The city of Tuscaloosa on Tuesday announced it will continue to limit access to city buildings and events in an effort to protect the local healthcare system and maintain essential city functions. The comes as community spreading of the coronavirus has dealt heavy impacts to the city's workforce, while DCH deals with its highest surge of inpatients thus far during the pandemic. Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox's office said city buildings, including City Hall, and events will remain limited until Jan. 31, 2021. The restrictions do not directly apply to PARA, Tuscaloosa City Schools or the Tuscaloosa Transit Authority facilities. Patch previously reported when the city implemented the restrictions in early December, amid a rise in hospitalizations and cases due to the holidays. The city says any necessary transactions can be conducted online, via phone or mail, or through the drop box in the City Hall drive-through. OTHER CITY ANNOUNCEMENTS Public participation in City Council meetings will be virtual. Meetings will be live streamed and public statements may be made via email, phone, or video. The Mildred Westervelt Warner Transportation Museum and the Gateway will remain closed to the public until Jan. 31.
