TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — A woman is facing felony child abuse charges after Tuscaloosa County deputies responded to a call of an unresponsive 6-month-old child in the 3000 block of 35th Avenue Monday afternoon. Tiffany Washington, 30, told deputies that she found the child unresponsive and began CPR.

Tuscaloosa Police Department Captain Marty Sellers, of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said Wednesday morning that members of the the multi-agency unit responded to begin an investigation after the initial call came in at 2:30 p.m.
Sellers said the child is currently in critical condition and receiving medical treatment.
Washington, who was the child's caretaker at the time and not the child's mother, was then charged late Tuesday evening with Assault 1 and Aggravated Child Abuse with a bond total set at $90,000. Sellers said additional charges or upgraded charges against her are likely.
"Additional information regarding the child and the investigation may be released depending on the outcome of the child's medical treatment," he said.
