Description
This is Pickles. He was about a year old when the first bit of scab was noticeable on his mouth. Over the past 10 months roughly his owner was taking him to the vet trying to get treatment & she started hand feeding him as he stopped eating. They did 4 rounds of different antibiotics before she surrendered the little guy to me. I took him to my vet for a second opinion. Dr ruled out mouth rot. He said it looks like a trauma wound like he bangs his mouth against the glass but Pickles doesn't do that so we don't really know what the cause is.
There aren't any stronger antibiotics to try or treatments that a Dr. could offer. Pickles still has a good strong bite & the Dr. was very surprised that he isn't eating on his own. I've been introducing Pickles to little wax worms & trying to encourage him to eat on his own. He is not a fan though, at this time he is still requiring hand feeding 2-3 times per week.
With continued patience & care he may very well be able eat bugs on his own again! There is no treatment, however, so his jaw will continue to slowly deteriorate until the day when quality of life becomes a concern.
Pickles is a gorgeous lizard who deserves a good home where he can live out his days! He is up for adoption currently and his full tank setup can go with him for an additional fee. Located in St. Cloud. Contact me if you're interested in adopting.
