Description

Hi there! My name is Nikolay and I'm a professional touring guitar player based in Berkeley, California. For the last 12 years, I have been dedicated to teaching full-time to students of all ages and skill levels in the San Francisco Bay Area. Currently, I play electric guitar in the Oakland-based Celtic rock band Tempest which I'm frequently touring with and playing a variety of venues and festivals all over the country. I provide a step-by-step style instruction suited to the beginner or individualized lesson plans for intermediate to advanced players. You can expect to learn a variety of musical styles, including classical, rock, blues, fingerstyle acoustic & folk in a relaxed professional environment. My instruction style tends to lean towards things that are practical and easily applicable to the stage, even if you don't have any plans to perform publicly necessarily. I little bit about myself and how I got into playing music: I began playing guitar at the age of 12, inspired by classic-rock players such as Ritchie Blackmore, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page. At 18, I moved on to study modern rock guitar under Martin Goulding at the Guitar Institute of Technology in London, U.K. and later studied classical guitar performance in my native country Bulgaria. In 2006, I attended the world-renowned Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA where I studied music business and contemporary music styles including jazz, fusion, funk and R&B under Alex Machacek, Ross Bolton, and Scott Henderson, while remaining active in a number of bands. Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to meeting you in-person or virtually. Until then, keep practicing! 🎸🎢🀘
