BIRMINGHAM, AL — A fire at an apartment complex on Highland Avenue Monday night resulted in two deaths, and the hospitalization of several other people. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. at Highland Manor Apartments. Birmingham Fire and Rescue reports said a woman and her adult son were killed in the blaze. Battalion Chief Sebastian Carrillo said nine patients were treated for a range of injuries including smoke inhalation, including the two fatalities. The cause of the fire has not been determined, officials said.
