I need a mechanic to help me fix a problem with my motorhome. I am the second owner of a 1992 Damon Challenger. It has a Chevy 454 pusher, with 65,000 miles on it. The rig is equipped with a hydro boost system. As you may know, Hydroboost powers both the power steering and the power breaks. Both the brakes and the steering are on the same circuit. This means that when you have a problem with one you have a problem with the other. A while back I was going down a road that had a rough patch and I got the death rattle in the steering wheel. Some may call it the Wibber jibbers, but as you may have experienced in some older vehicles when the steering wheel starts flailing back-and-forth in your hands very quickly, you have to take some quick action. Of course I immediately stepped on the brakes and slowed down the rig. That event triggered a leak in the hydroboost system. The next day I noticed that there was power steering fluid leaking out of the reservoir that’s just behind the front grill, to the right of the Radiator. I have tried a couple of things to fix it. I put on an entirely new power steering pump, replaced the hoses, and the clamps. I also installed a new Hydro booster, but still it leaks. I am willing to pay $80 an hour for labor if you come and fix the problem yourself, up to 16 hours. If I help you, I will pay 60, and if you simply want to give me some consultation and I do the work, I will pay you $50 an hour for that. You must have your own tools and a way to get to my location. Also, some time on Chevrolet Big blocks would be very helpful. I have vowed not to roll this bus again until the power steering and brakes are operational again, and I do not want to pay a tow-truck driver, so I need you to come to me.
