Description
From a few of the responses I have already received since posting this job, perhaps I need to clarify a few things:
First, when I said "assume the paint is pre-1978," I intended to mean that this paint no doubt has lead in it. I have not tested it, but I am going on the assumption it has lead. At a minumum, goggles and an N95 maks must be worn. If you have a resperator, terrific.
Second, I have done some research for this job and even attempted to do it myself. An ordinary heat gun will not work. It won't budge. My research indicates that the only option is an infrared heating tool. If you are not familiar with an infrared heating tool, I suggest you Google "infrared paint removal." It seems to be the safest and an sanding will NOT be necessary for this job given that it is a heavy metal pipe.
Third, I do NOT want to use chemicals.
With that said, here agains is my original post:
I'm looking for a handyman/contractor to remove old paint from a steam pipe in a bathroom. Very old paint, many layers. Assume the paint is pre-1978. Pipe is vertical, stationary, and about 12 feet high, eight inches in circumference.
Looking for someone who has an infrared heating tool to do this job and is experienced in using infrared heating to remove the paint. I do not want chemicals used.
I assume the job would take one day.
