Hello! My name is Kevin Gu and I'm the National Student Poet of the Northeast. As a part of my yearlong literary ambassadorship, I'm working on a service project to incorporate poetry into the greater community.
Through poetry, I’ve learned to grow. Both in my language and soul. I want to create a space where students are allowed to tell their stories and to be able to use writing as an outlet for catharsis and healing.
I believe the space where we write in contributes to much of our internal flourish and growth; so, I’ll be taking groups of students to the Arnold Arboretum in order to emulate the sensation of germination through generative poetry. We’ll be writing and exploring, both the landscape and our poems as well. Finally, we will be doing planting! I will be providing resources for miniature gardening. The students will bury their finished poems in pots of soil and replanting small succulents into slightly larger pots with soil and poems—touching on the idea that poetry gives you more space to grow into, more room to heal.
