Dear Friends,
No doubt, Sri Lanka’s worst known financial crisis since its independence is swiftly becoming an alarming health crisis.
Sri Lanka imports more than 80% of its medical supplies. However, due to a lack of crucial foreign currency, Sri Lanka is now unable to import essential medicine. Currently, there is a shortage of almost 200 medical items, including 76 essential, life-saving drugs.
Doctors fearing the worst, have predicted that the prolonged shortages could result in multiple deaths.
The Sri Lankan Community in North Texas has decided to take action. We are organizing a special Fundraising Musical Evening - සුව සරණි (Suwa Sarani), to provide urgent medical assistance to hospitals in Sri Lanka. Our goal is to donate essential medicines to medical facilities instead of direct funds. We will work closely with doctors in selected hospitals to identify the requirements and purchase medicines from lisenced medical suppliers within the country.
