Updated (06/20/22) due to power outage on 6/18 all class dates have been shifted by a week e.g instead of 6/18 pattern and mask making it will be on 6/25 Sew In Detroit SEW Saturdays are back!!!! Fun sewing classes taught by fashion designer Volencia Simpson and emerging designers Tiffany Jones and Michele Bell-Tillis. We switched it up a bit instead of a 5 week series we are now doing each week you join us will be based off the lesson that your interested in learning.... Week 1- June 4th Sewing Basic Learn: Sewing machine parts, threading, tension, and sewing straight, corners, and curves skills development Supplies: 1/2 yard of fabric and thread NO Class June 11 community outreach day Week 2- June 18th Patterns (Mask project) Learn: Tools, Measurements, How to Use Patterns, basic sewing terms., and mask making project Supplies:quarter of fabric, elastic, basic sewing kit (scissors, seam riper, marking tool, tape measure, pins, pen cushion, and hand sewing needles) Week3- June 25th Stitches (Puffy sleeve project) Learn: hem, pleats, overcasting, french seams, etc Supplies: 1 yard of fabric, t-shirt, and sewing kit Week 4- July 2nd Swimsuit Project Learn: Developing pattern using skills Supplies: Swimsut pattern (will assign which one to get after register), fabric (back of your pattern), sewing kit Week 5- July 9th Hand Sewing (Repurpose Day) Learn: Hand sewing techniques and repair/redesigning clothing techniques (dying, cutting/shredding, gluing tips Supplies: fabric, dyes, paint, sewing kit, and whatever you want to recreate or fix NO Class July 16th Community Care day Week 6th- July 23rd Darting (Circle Skirt) Learn: how to draft a circle skirt Supplies: 2yards of stretchy fabric, double fold bais tape, and sewing kit Week 7 & 8 July 30th & Aug. 6 Zippers (Touser or short pattern Learn: how to install a invisiple, separating, and lap zipper than make pants Supplies: pattern will send once register, fabric read pattern description, sewing kit Current class rules and polices Please look at class dates and project before registering.
