After a long hiatus and an address change, Western Mass Krav Maga has reopened and is holding classes. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience, skill, or ability. Due to the mature nature of portions of the curriculum, anyone under 16 requires the consent of a parent or guardian.
Krav Maga (translation="contact combat") is a self-defense system developed for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli security forces. It is derived from a combination of techniques used in aikido, boxing, judo, karate, and wrestling with an emphasis on efficiency and simplicity. It was derived from the street-fighting experience of Hungarian-Israeli martial artist Imi Lichtenfeld, who made use of his training as a boxer and wrestler while defending the Jewish quarter against fascist groups in Bratislava during the mid-to-late 1930s. In the late 1940s, after his immigration to Mandatory Palestine, he began to provide lessons on combat training to what was to become the IDF.
Krav Maga is a great way to get in shape while developing the skills and mindset to help keep yourself safe.
