The Goal Is To Live is an experimental film that portrays a mesmerizing process in which lush, colorful materials are transformed in myriad ways — pink goo is pressed into sheets, dyed bright green, cut into cubes, burnt to ash, poured into a vat of blue liquid — as a minimalist soundtrack urges it all along. The hypnotic alchemical process ultimately create a unique experience for the viewer: a narrative that arises purely from aesthetic relationships.
Ultimately the end of the film returns to the original starting point. Nothing has been made, the process is endless. Using repurposed content from the popular show, How It’s Made, which chronicles the factories that create everyday objects, the film takes my practice of accumulation and recontextualization into a large-scale time-based work for the first time. The Goal Is To Live asks questions about our casual relationship to consumerism, industry, capitalism, and the everyday media that surrounds and propagandizes these infrastructures.
