This woven reed market basket is a great workshop for beginners who want to try their hand at basket weaving. It's the perfect size to hold a large project or your groceries at the farmer's market; in Joy's house these tend to become a cat bed. Try your hand at weaving and learn about the history of different materials and techniques in basketry, and possibly hear some fun stories about sourcing hard-to-find wood for her baskets! $35 materials cost included in ticket price Joy Smith is an experienced basket weaver with over 30 years of making baskets, and 25 teaching professionally. She has studied in New England to learn about Shaker and Nantucket style baskets, West Virginia to study weaving with white oak, and has traveled near and far to source wood. Most notably, she traveled to Washington State to source red cedar when she heard trees were being chopped down. Joy's favorite souvenir when travelling is material for her baskets; she has been known to harvest birch bark from hotel parking lots and to travel home with a stump for company.
