ABOUT THE EVENT You're officially invited by Porchlight to gather and celebrate a musical evening filled with stories that travel faith and doubt, hope and sorrow. An Eventbrite ticket reserves your spot. The artist has suggested a $10 ticket at the door (check, cash, credit, Venmo or PayPal). If this amount is restrictive for you to attend, please come anyway. We'd rather have you. :) Time: Doors open at 6:30pm and the concert is 7:00 - 9:00 with a short intermission. Hangout after the show with friends and the artist! PLEASE BRING A LAWN CHAIR. We'll hold the performance in our backyard if weather permits! ABOUT THE ARTIST After a 15 year struggle with drug/alcohol addiction and mental illness, grace found Will Kaul and taught him to truly Smile. Now, reviving his music career as indie-rock artist “Smiley Kaul” he shares hope and joy with a gritty punch. Smiley is heavily influenced by the great songwriters, particularly Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen as well as more contemporary artists such as Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel) and Thom Yorke (Radiohead). Punk rock and hip-hop played a big role in the formation of his musical style. Lyrically, Smiley states that he “writes new psalms for that old-time gospel,” a combination of story, prayer and praise.
