***NOTE*** To be considered for this position, please apply at the Skagit County Job Opportunity site: SUMMARY: Performs preventative maintenance, lubrication and maintenance inspections on all County vehicles and equipment. Maintains all Preventative Maintenance records on vehicles and equipment of work performed and charges parts and materials as needed. - Salary upon hire is $20.52 to $21.98 per hour (step 1 through 3) depending upon qualifications. - Progressive increases are based upon years of service with Skagit County, up to step 8 (top step is $26.12/hr.). The Maintenance Mechanic I is Range 9 of the AFSCME (Public Works) Union salary schedule. _ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment that consists of oil and filter changes, fluid level checks, and lubrication of grease points. Inspects vehicles and equipment for wear on brakes, clutches, tires, joints, fluid leaks, air leaks, exhaust leaks, wiper blades, and window cracks. Reports maintenance problems to supervisor. Performs a walk around/visual check of body, safety equipment, engine compartment, under carriage inspection, and operational check/road testing. Cleans vehicles inside and out as directed by supervisor. Keeps accurate maintenance records of all work performed. Assists other Mechanics in mechanical repairs to vehicles and equipment. May assist Equipment Rental and Revolving Fund Coordinator in identifying and tracking sound safety practices as directed. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: May be tasked with performing related duties. Related duties as required are duties that may not be specifically listed in the position description but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s classification of work. ***NOTE*** To be considered for this position, please apply at the Skagit County Job Opportunity site: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: At least one year of education or experience repairing and maintaining engines and mechanical equipment, or any combination that provides a total of one year of training to acquire the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the work. Licenses and/or Certifications: Valid Washington State driver's license required. CDL Class Endorsement is desirable. Must be able to obtain a valid First Aid and CPR certification within six (6) months of employment. Must be able to obtain a Brake Inspector's certification within one (1) year of employment. Requires knowledge of: Preventative maintenance needs of vehicles and equipment. Appropriate oils and greases for a variety of applications. Basic operation of gas and diesel engines, hydraulic, air, brake, and transmission systems. Hazards and safety precautions required in the mechanical trades. Requires the ability to: Use hand tools and shop equipment, including hoist. Keep accurate records. Operate vehicles and equipment. Ability to perform duties on the road, i.e., change tires, change grader blades, and lube work. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in the shop or outdoors in varying weather conditions. Exposure to hazardous materials, heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and fumes. Physical hazard from equipment may be present. Extended hours (nights and weekends) may be required to complete emergency repairs. Different work shifts may be required (example: Monday – Thursday, 12:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.) Employee is required to supply his/her own tools up to one and one-quarter inches in size. Replacement of broken, worn out, or missing hand tools will be reimbursed up to the maximum allowed for in the Labor Agreement. Work requires standing, bending, crawling, climbing, lifting up to 75 pounds, and sufficient manual dexterity and strength to operate tools and equipment.
