The dogs come in all sizes, behavioral types, and training levels. Multi-tasking will be required. New people generally start on cleaning and closing. Our hope is to build a healthy professional relationship based on trust and team-work which will enable us to start cross training and giving different responsibilities to expand your skills and knowledge to become more valuable at PawsUp but also in the pet industry in general. We like for people who are looking to work here to be interested in animal learning theory, behavioral sciences, and dog training as that is the mentality that is needed to sustain working hours and advance in the company. There are ways for us to help you learn about these subjects over time, but we give people about two weeks to show us what kind of integrity they have during the cleaning and closing shifts along with their ability to follow instruction and show appropriate interest in doing the job in a way that reflects the quality of care that is required to manage and care for dogs. We currently have 5 employees, and we need one or two more people for a well balanced team. The owner/manager has worked here for 7 years, started in a cleaning/ closing shift. The lead trainer/assistant manager has worked here for over 5 years. Then we have our main dog handlers and facility operators: one who's been with us for over a year, another who is going on a year, and a new person who's been with us for a few months. Paws Up takes in 25- 45 dogs each day of the week, and they are split into groups of about 5-8 dogs each, all based on playstyle, size, and temperament. People who come to us with dog handling skills or behavioral knowledge will have more ability to negotiate wages and hours.
