Water and Wastewater Operations Company is seeking to hire an entry level or experienced Wastewater Operator to conduct supervised wastewater operations at multiple small-plant facilities in Cecil, Harford, and Baltimore Counties. We are willing to train the right candidate but would prefer licensed water or wastewater operator with MD State Licensure. Position Details/Expectations • Part-time/full-time with demonstrated experience. Willing to train the right entry-level candidate. • Offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Salary is negotiable and depends on experience and licensure • Flexible schedule; independent local travel between worksites; mileage reimbursement for plants outside of established mileage cap; must have reliable transportation and valid driver’s license. • A License or experience working toward a license is a plus. Must have a minimum of High School Diploma or GED; and the desire to further education and obtain state licensing for advancement. Bachelor’s Degree a plus but not required. • Mechanical aptitude is preferred. Must be teachable and trainable with the natural ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve with direction. Must possess the ability to understand instrumentation and controls. • Must be self-motivated, accountable, ethical, possess a strong work ethic and be flexible to work remotely and as part of a team. • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication. The field team is connected via various smartphone applications to enhance field communications and team connectivity. • Must have basic computer skills and the ability to report data in excel. • Prior water, wastewater, plumbing or electrical experience is a plus! Position Description: Wastewater: • Operates and maintains wastewater treatment equipment and processes, ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental protection limits. • Monitors and samples well and groundwater upon entry to the system. Adjusts treatment levels when below-standard variances are detected. • Conducts ongoing repairs to equipment or shuts down equipment for more extensive maintenance and repair, activating alternate equipment as needed. Reports service requests to management regarding outside maintenance vendors for major repairs and overhauls. • Reads and interprets meters and gauges on the central control panel, or at individual machines or stages in the treatment process. Adjusts controls as needed. Retrieves computer reports on the treatment process. • Prepares reports and maintains logs on meter readings, tests, chemical and equipment usage, and all other recordkeeping requirements; maintains various Company records and other reports as required by the state. • Cleans and maintains treatment plant, pumping stations, and wells; prepares and paints equipment, walls, and floors. Water: • Oversee all aspects of water system operations, maintenance, and monitoring. • Assist in repair, testing, and disinfection of the water system. • Operate and maintain well pumps and hydropneumatic pressure tanks. Collect water samples • Supervise treatment and assure proper monitoring and control. Clean and disinfect storage tanks. Protect equipment and facilities from corrosion. Monitor pump motors to detect unusual noises, vibrations, or excessive heat. Adjust and clean pump seals and packing glands and clean mechanical seals. • Safely handle, store and utilize treatment chemicals. • Keep records and prepare reports. • Troubleshoot and correct minor electrical and mechanical equipment problems. • Adhere to safety guidelines. • Troubleshoot and address water-related complaints. Discuss with customers their water-related concerns. • Communicate effectively with owners, employees, customers, regulatory personnel, and others. • Respond to water system emergencies. • Must work On-Call in rotation as scheduled; allows for flexible schedule within reason • Must be able to lift over fifty pounds.
