Drawing upon his years of service for Oregon’s Ocean Policy Advisory Council as well as his experience managing multiple coastal lands for The Wetlands Conservancy and Portland Audubon Society (including the Ten Mile Creek Sanctuary near Yachats), Paul will cover a range of coastal Oregon conservation issues and strategies as well as updates on Oregon’s five marine reserves, the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve and Seabird Protected Area. His in-depth talk will discuss the imporance of protecting forage fish, the prey base for seabirds, as well as the unique habitat requirements for the ESA listed Marbled Murrelet and the value of beavers to salmon recovery, water quality and landscape conservation efforts. Paul has decades of experience working in partnership to achieve conservation goals, including the Siuslaw Forest Stewardship groups which received the 2010 Two Chief ’s Partnership Award, presented annually to a handful of projects by the Chiefs of the U.S. Forest Service and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) recognizing exemplary efforts across both public and private land stewardship. Worthy Garden Club is the newest partner in the Ten Mile Creek conservaiton effort and is in process of implementing a restoration plan for their parcels.
