According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention: -Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the US -45,979 Americans died by suicide in 2020 -In 2020, there were an estimated 1.20M suicide attempts -The rate of suicide is highest in middle-aged white men -In 2020, men died by suicide 3.88x more than women and white males accounted for 69.68% of suicide deaths in 2020 -On average, there are 130 suicides per day -In 2020, firearms accounted for 52.83% of all suicide deaths -The age adjusted suicide rate in Michigan is 13.92 per 100,000 individuals, which is higher than the national average Join us for our 3rd Annual INTO THE LIGHT Suicide Awareness Walk, with all proceeds staying in Lapeer County. Registration on site begins at 11:30am. Walk starts at 1pm. Food and T-shirts will be given free of charge along with other community resources.
