Description

This is our fourth permablitz organized by Philly Permablitz and our very first sequal event! So what's a permablitz, you might ask? A permablitz is an informal gathering involving a day on which a group of people come together to achieve the following: create or add to edible gardens based on principles and ethics of permacultureshare skills related to permaculture and sustainable livingbuild community of like-minded peoplehave fun!Who can come to a permablitz? Anyone and everyone can come to a permablitz, and there is never any cost to participate. Never picked up a shovel? No worries! We especially welcome first time gardeners. Skill level and physical ability aren’t problems at all. Just come and contribute any way you are able. You’re sure to meet interesting, friendly people of many stripes and persuasions at a permablitz. Kids are welcome to attend but must be supervised at all times. What will happen on the day of the blitz? What will my role be? Every blitz is a little different, but each blitz is focused around implementing various parts of a permaculture design. During this blitz we are planning to have groups of people working on the following projects (among other things, hopefully): Terracing pathways and filling raised beds for a vegetable garden areaPlanting native and edible shrubsYour role will be to learn about whatever tasks we are doing from the blitz facilitators, and then jump in and help do them! Attending a blitz is not a passive experience, so only attend if you plan on helping out and getting involved. You will probably learn a lot along the way! What should I bring? Once you sign up for this event, the blitz facilitator will reach out to all the attendees to see who can bring what tools and resources. All tools you bring should be labeled at the start of the blitz so they can be easily identified and returned to whoever brought. Unless you have special dietary needs, a picnic-style dinner will be provided. Snacks, coffee, tea, and other drinks will be provided by the hosts. Feel free to bring your own lawn/folding chair if you wish. The most important thing to bring is a positive attitude and a willingness to jump into whatever projects are going on at the blitz! Work gloves, a water bottle, a hat, and sunscreen would be a good ideas as well. About the Site & Our Hosts (Matt and Divya) The site is a small suburban site in a residential neighborhood in Morrisville, PA (Bucks County). The front yard is fairly flat and the backyard slopes down away from the house. Matt will act as a facilitator for the design and Divya will serve as the host. Matt, who has a permaculture design certificate from Hundred Fruit Farm in 2020, has created the permaculture design for the site himself with input from Divya. About the Facilitators Matt will be the lead facilitator for the blitz and his co-facilitator will be Adam Dusen from Hundred Fruit Farm. Adam received his permaculture design certificate from The Panya Project in 2008. (Below is the beautiful rain garden that was successfully installed during part 1. Thanks again to all who participated)
