Postponed Special Milford Town Meeting Begins In January

MILFORD, MA — Milford will begin a special Town Meeting on Jan. 6 that was postponed from November following the death of longtime Town Moderator Michael Noferi. The meeting will begin with Town Clerk Amy Neves stepping in as the moderator until a new one can be picked for just the special Town Meeting, which will last for two nights. Voters will elect a new moderator in the April 6 election. Noferi, 77, died on Oct. 24 after serving as moderator for 44 years. Before taking over as moderator, he was the youngest person ever elected to a Board of Selectmen in Massachusetts in 1969. The special Town Meeting warrant is hefty, with 42 articles up for approval — everything from replacing carpet at a library meeting room to changing the name from Board of Selectmen to "Select Board." The meeting will be held in a remote format, with some meeting members voting in person at Milford High School, and some voting online.
