Description

MILFORD, MA — Milford will begin a special Town Meeting on Jan. 6 that was postponed from November following the death of longtime Town Moderator Michael Noferi. The meeting will begin with Town Clerk Amy Neves stepping in as the moderator until a new one can be picked for just the special Town Meeting, which will last for two nights. Voters will elect a new moderator in the April 6 election. Noferi, 77, died on Oct. 24 after serving as moderator for 44 years. Before taking over as moderator, he was the youngest person ever elected to a Board of Selectmen in Massachusetts in 1969. The special Town Meeting warrant is hefty, with 42 articles up for approval — everything from replacing carpet at a library meeting room to changing the name from Board of Selectmen to "Select Board." You can see the full warrant on the town website (it is still marked as the Nov. 9 meeting). The meeting will be held in a remote format, with some meeting members voting in person at Milford High School, and some voting online.
