Please join us Saturday, July 23rd, 2022 from 4-6pm for a private, invitation only book release party for “Seeds: Stories of Afro Indigenous Resilience.” Author and storyteller Dominique Daye Hunter is Black, Yésah / Saponi, Nansemond, Irish, and Polish, and has been healing through poetry for over 17 years. She has performed at Crescent Ballroom Lounge, the Heard Museum, Diamondbacks Stadium, Emerging Beyond Genocidal Colonization Indigenous Poetry Series, ASU Gammage, and Glendale Community College. Daye Hunter has also hosted writing workshops at Arizona State University, University of Arizona, and Mesa Community College. In this collection of poetry and short stories, Daye Hunter explores the histories, intergenerational and personal trauma, healing, and resilience of the Afro Indigenous diaspora. Other themes highlighted in the book include Indigenous spirituality, Afro Indigenous identity, anti-Blackness in Indigenous communities, perspectives of Southeastern Indigenous peoples, traditional Yésah / Saponi culture, reclaiming African roots, ancestral guidance, food sovereignty, and water rights. The event will include an O’odham prayer and opening, singing by Nia Monet, a reading by Daye Hunter, and a question-and-answer portion followed by a book signing. There will be light refreshments provided as well as books, tee shirts, and other merchandise available for sale. Space is limited to 20 people. Dominique Daye Hunter (Bachelor of Science in Nonprofit Leadership Management) is the CEO of D. Daye Hunter Designs LLC and is a sophomore cohort member of the Arizona Commission on the Arts “Artist Investment Program.” This event is sponsored in partnership with the Arizona Commission on the Arts.
