This is Dio. He is a lab mix and just shy of 5 years old. We have had him since he was a baby and has been a wonderful addition to our family and home.
The next part is not here for someone to judge, nor am I seeking advice. We have spoken to every shelter, trainer, vet, animal control officer, etc.
Two weeks ago today, our 4 year old daughter was on the floor with our dog, as she usually is, talking to him and showing him love. She went in for a hug, and unfortunately Dio's reaction was a bite to the face. This was very traumatic. We choose our child, which means we must rehome our dog. He has always been sweet, has not shown aggression. Something in that moment was different in the way he typically responds, but he is still a good, sweet dog. Because of the nature of the event, a shelter will understandably not take him for rehoming. And, my hope was that by some miracle someone would see this guy, and with full disclosure of the event still see him as a possible good addition to their life and home. Obviously, despite him being wonderful with our children all his life, we would not recommend he go to a home with small children. We know this is a long shot, but in our minds and heart, worth a try. He deserves the effort and a long, good life in the right setting.
He has completed the 10 day quarantine and is up to date on all his vaccinations.
