POLK COUNTY, FL — Polk County residents who are behind on rent and mortgage notes due to layoffs from the coronavirus pandemic could get caught up with help from a $2.5 million CARES Act.
Applications opened Tuesday morning and will close Thurs., Dec. 31 at 5 p.m.
In order to qualify for the Polk County CDBG Mortage and Rental Assistance Program, the guidelines provided by county officials are listed below:
A current resident of Polk County (excluding those within the city of Lakeland, which has its own program and separate application process)Have a loss or reduction of income, loss of employment or health related issues due to COVID-19Currently delinquent on rent or mortgage paymentCurrent gross household income is below 80 percent of area median income based on household sizeThis program will pay up to six months of delinquent rent or mortgage payments, the county's website said.
