Ultimately, we are all fragile beings with our own stories, making up our own transparent glass image. Glass Image - made up of Connor VanEpps, Eric Mohan, Alec Barner, and Eric Frank - aims to capture the feeling of intense emotion, strong storytelling, and real vulnerability with their songwriting. Mixed Emotions: The title of our upcoming record and an apt description of its identity. Mixed Emotions is a record of varying and intense feeling - which each song encapsulates differently. You have the straightforward hard-hitters like “Again” and “Too Late”, who’s emotion is clearly announced, and you have songs like the title track “Mixed Emotions”, whose meanings and elucidations change depending on the listener. From beginning to end, Mixed Emotions is a journey, much like the process of writing and making the album. The songs on Mixed Emotions were, by and large, not written together; not written by the same people, in a sense. Rather, this record is a collection of music that has grown with the band over years and years of playing, writing, and growing together. The oldest song on the record is “Find Your Way” - a Floydian dreamscape with a hard hitting chorus, and an uplifting hook, which was written circa 2014. The newest song, by far, is “Fortress”: a pandemic induced freight train of a song where lyrics that echo Radiohead’s dystopian nature are met with a wall of instrumental sound that rivals the Foo Fighters, all topped off with a guitar solo that glides over the powerful rhythm section and solidifies the feelings established earlier in the song of panic, anger, and fear. One of my personal favorite songs on the album is the introductory song of the record: “Time To Pass.” Originally unintended to appear on the album, “Time To Pass'' was quickly paired with the triumphant “A Reason to Think” and bombastic “Again” to make a power trio of music that couldn’t help but be heard. It’s a deceptive introduction to such a lively album, and that is what makes the track so powerful, and so poignant; because of its content and its context to the other songs. Pulling from influences such as Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead, and Muse, they have cemented themselves in the Central New York region as a loud, commanding, and powerful live act.
