Note: event will be held in the auditorium. Parking available in front lot. Presenters: Mary Linden Salter, LCSW, Daryl, Murray, Melvin Smith, MS, Neru Gobin, Justin Coggins, and other panelists There will be an overview of the levels and types of recovery housing as well as standards and best practices in Tennessee. You will learn about several housing initiatives in our state and resources in the area. There will be a panel discussion about some of the barriers and gaps in urban and rural areas and a toolkit for implementing recovery housing. Participants will be able to ask questions about developing and sustaining recovery housing. We will look at ways of closing gaps and issues with recovery housing as well as educating the community. ~~~ Course Goals: Participants will Learn about 2 recovery housing modelsLearn 2 ways of implementing house rules.Identify 4 levels of housing and staffing to meet the needs of the residents. Identify 3 community resources that help build recovery capital. Yes, it is included Handouts: will be given out before or after the training ~~~ Presenters: Mary Linden Salter is the Executive Director of the Tennessee Association of Alcohol, Drug and other Addiction Services, an association of addiction and recovery support providers. Mary Linden is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked in Tennessee since 1996. She received her Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University. Prior to taking this position, she was the Director of Network Services for Behavioral Health for United Healthcare (UHC) and was the Manager of a utilization review team for Magellan Behavioral Heath, both TennCare MCOs. She has also worked in several clinical programs in Tennessee including the Center of Excellence for Children in State Custody at Vanderbilt and as the IOP Program Director for Centerstone. Prior to joining UHC, Mary Linden worked at the Tennessee Association of Mental Health Organizations as the Director of Public Policy, where she was involved in statewide policy analysis and development as well as state legislative initiatives. Since Mary Linden joined TAADAS, the agency has developed newly defined membership and an advocacy plan. The association’s advocacy efforts have included ACA education, outreach, and enrollment, addressing the Medicaid Gap, promotion of funding for addiction resources, parity education and enforcement, and refinements to LADAC licensure. Mary Linden serves on the TDMHSAS Institutional Review Board, the Co-Occurring Disorders Collaborative Steering Committee, the Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute Board of Trustees, the TN Association of Drug Court Professionals Board, The Tennessee Certification Board, and the Board of the Healing Arts Project. Daryl Murray has over 30 years of hands-on experience working with the homeless and recovering addicts. He has worked with feeding and shelter programs in New York City, was the Director of the largest food bank distribution center in Middle Tennessee, a Youth Pastor, and operated a small home repair business that was staffed by men in recovery. Currently, he is the founding Executive Director of Welcome Home Ministries, (www.welcomehomemin.org) a faith-based 501(c)3 organization established in 1992. This organization operates 9 homes with 77 total beds for people recovering from substance use disorder. Daryl serves on various community boards and committees. He is the recipient of several awards including: Tennessee Association of Alcohol Drugs and other Addictive Services (TAADAS) CEO of the Year, TAADAS Volunteer of the Year Award, Center for Non-Profit (CNM) Bank of America CEO of the Year Award, CNM Memorial Foundation Leadership finalist, and CNM Baptist Healing Trust Access to Care Award finalist. Melvin Smith is the Assistant Director of Treatment and Recovery Services at the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (TDMHSAS). Mr. Smith has a 14-year tenure with TMHSAS dedicated to treatment and recovery services. He currently oversees programs dedicated to recovery and peer recovery and HIV. Mr. Smith earned his B.S. in Sociology and master’s degree in Organizational Counseling Psychology from Tennessee State University in Nashville. He has over 30 years of experience working with adults, children, and their families. He has worked in the field providing direct service to people in recovery from mental illness and substance use for 25 years and now enjoys supporting this mission through oversight of his contracts with over 110 agencies providing serving to Tennesseans.
