You are cordially invited to The Clearing, a family reunion style gathering for and by Black women and femme poets on Saturday, July 30, 2022. Join ConsenSIS and spend the day communing with other poets, and immerse yourself in our walking tours, writing workshops, and curated rest and play. Helmed by Yolanda Wisher, 2016-2017 Poet Laureate, and Trapeta B. Mayson, 2020-2021 Poet Laureate, ConsenSIS strives to create space for black women and femme poets, surveying their work and their lives within the ripe Black literary scene in Philadelphia. From the writings of suffragist Frances Ellen Watkins Harper to the words of Sonia Sanchez, Black women and femmes have been a vibrant part of Philadelphia's poetic legacy. By hosting The Clearing, ConsenSIS aims to spark new traditions that commemorate a vital creative community in a city where Black women's contributions to history are often buried under cobblestones and colonial landmarks.
