When we are triggered by people or situations, we can experience an intense reaction in our emotions, thoughts, and body, especially if past trauma has been triggered. When that happens, we can lose access to the part of our brain that thinks, so we simply react when we are triggered rather than thinking through our options and choosing what is best for us and others.
