An exhilarating and brilliant string trio concert will be presented on Saturday, July 30 by members of the Chicago Symphony and the Lyric Opera: Liba Shacht, violin, John Sharp, cello, and Winston Choi, piano. This dynamic 7PM concert will be presented at St. James Lutheran Church, 8945 Stebbins, Montague. They will perform Bach’s Suite No. 1 in G major for Solo Cello, Brahms Piano Trio in C minor, Op.101, and Beethoven’s Piano Trio in B flat, “Archduke Op 97. Praised as “an absolutely superb cellist” by the Chicago Tribune, John Sharp is the principal cellist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and a top prizewinner of the Tchaikovsky International Cello Competition. Upon the recommendation of Isaac Stern, violinist Liba Shacht made her New York City debut to glowing reviews: “Ms Shacht delights in her nimble technique, and virtuosic display pieces...present few obstacles,” wrote The New York Times. John and Liba met playing chamber music at the Marlboro Music Festival and married in 1987. They perform frequently as a duo and in collaboration with other musicians. John and Liba have performed on WFMT, the Rush Hour Concerts, the Norton Concert Series, the Pilgrim Chamber Players series, the opening concert of the Chamber Music Society of Louisville series, and the Ars Viva festival in La Turbie, France. Most recently they have played at Baylor University, St. Olaf College, the Schubert Club Chamber Music Series in St. Paul, Minnesota, and in chamber music performances in Malaga, Spain.
