Hello. My dog died after a longer than anticipated life. He made it to 14 1/2. He was enormous so I had expected him to go a little earlier. I had him put down. He was incontinent and whimpering upon arousal and walking was very obviously difficult to say the least. He had been with his @#$%! mom the last year, me sadly leaving him w her when I transitioned from housed to not. He wasnt gonna fare well running around everywhere w me on foot. I had him w me every day since he was 3 mo. old. After giving it some thought, I decided that working toward concealing the fact that Im homeless when trying to find a dog to fill the infinitely huge void left by my last dog didnt feel right. Look. I understand you likely have concern regarding my competence and responsibility toward caring for an animal. And thats perfectly understandable. Id have similar concerns about you if you DIDNT. The odds of a homeless person being a shitty guardian to a dog, esp in the health care areas are higher than with housed individuals. But there are plenty of us who make excellent ones. When I have a dog, that dog is my family. My dog was my soul brother. I cannot put into words the spiritual connection we had. He comes to me in my dreams frequently, spurring the strongest emotional experiences Ive ever had. When I would meet my next, Id go without before he/she was neglected upkeep or comfort. You can disrespect or mess with me, my friends, maybe even my family. But go there w my DOG, and its AWN. Ima be all up in your shit. One thing homeless dogs have over non: they rarely see a dull day, walk every day, meet all kinds of people every day, and theyre always where they want to be: with their owner. Im not too particular as to size if the dog is a mutt. If its purebred, I want a small dog. All the large breeds die to young. Dogs dying sucks. Id like to go as long as possible w out experiencing it again. Big and small both have pluses and minuses. Id prefer a young dog. Puppy would be ideal.
